Mangels is founded by Max Mangels Jr. and Heinrich Kreutzberg on October 1, 1928. First factory in the District of Mocca, in the City of São Paulo. First product: galvanized buckets.
The first diversification program is implemented in 1932 and the Company starts to produce hardware for electric power distribution and transmission lines.
In 1938, Mangels becomes the first Brazilian company to produce cylinders for the distribution of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

Max. E. Mangels and Peter Mangels, who represent the second generation of the founding family, join the company. Manufacture of wheels and automotive parts begins.

The Company expands through the acquisition of Bratal Ferro e Aço (Bratal Iron and Steel) and Laminação Panambra (Panambra Rolling Mill).
Opening of a new cold rolled steel plant in São Bernardo do Campo and establishment of Latin America’s Steel Service Canter.
New steel wheel models are launched and the product is exported to the United States for the first time.
The seventies are marked by Brazils intensive economic growth. First oil crisis. Inflation and foreign debt rise.
Mangels goes public and its shares are traded in the São Paulo Stock Exchange.
Company expansion with the inauguration of a new LPG cylinder plant in Três Corações, Minas Gerais.
Economic rises and various economic plans fail. End of military rule. New Federal Constitution. First direct vote election for president in 30 years. Fernando Collor is elected.
The Company is structured according to Business Areas and three Divisions are established Steel, Wheels and Cylinders. New products are launched by the Steel division: bimetallic strips and steel bands for packaging.
Robert Max Mangels, who represents the third generation of the founding family, is elected president.
Production of aluminum wheels begins.
Opening of the market and increase in competition due to globalization. Fernando Collor is ousted by Congress. High inflation ensues. The Real Plan is launched and the currency stabilized. Fernando Henrique Cardoso is elected President. The real-dollar exchange rate is overvalued. Crises in Mexico, Asia, Russia and Argentina shake the world’s economy with serious negative repercussions for Brazil’s economy.
The Company’s new management, headed by president Robert Mangels, conducts an in-depth restructuring of the Company focused on its core businesses: steel, wheels and cylinders. Businesses that had no synergy with the core product areas are closed down or sold.
A broad modernization program of the plant is implemented aimed at increasing productivity and product capacity.
The Cylinder Division’s requalification workshops are opened. Beginning of OEM aluminum wheel sales to automobile manufacturers.
Headquarter offices of the Company are set up in the Southern part of São Paulo. Four plants: São Bernardo do Campo and Gaurulhos, in São Paulo, and two others in Três Corações, Minas Gerals. Four cylinder requalification workshops at strategic locations in Brazil. Two steel distribution centers.
Over 3,000 customers in Brazil and abroad, and a highly qualified team of 1,700 employees.
